Ecuador

The phrase small is beautiful could have been coined specifically with Ecuador in mind. By South American standards Ecuador is dwarfed by its neighbors Colombia and Peru. At one time Ecuador was a part of the Inkan (Incan) Empire but, became its own country after the Spanish Conquest when Simon Bolivar fought for Independence. The relative compactness of Ecuador makes it an interesting attraction. The varied landscape; of mountains; the highlands and the jungle are a part of the unusual country. The shores that surround the Archipelago are remarkable and produce the most striking plant and animal life on the planet. The incomprehensible Galagapos are surrounded by the warm Humboldt and the cool water of El Nino. Alexander Von Humboldt was so impressed by the snow-covered peaks running down the county’s spine, that he dubbed them the ‘Avenue of the Volcanoes’. The continual growth of the volcanic flow expands the land mass and ignites the questions that have surrounded the Galagapos.

When Charles Darwin visited the Islands in 1835, he brought the Galapagos Islands – the greatest wildlife show on Earth to the attention to the world. Darwin called the Galapágos Islands, “a little world within itself.”

Ecuador’ geographic and biological diversity is extraordinary; a fact that did not escape the attention of the 18th and 19th – century scientists and explorers alike. When the French savant, Charles-Marie de la Condamine, determined the precise location of the equatorial line it gave the country its name and a global status.
